A method and an apparatus for providing POI(Position Of Interest) information to a navigation system are provided to enable a user to easily search for a POI by providing detailed map information to the user during navigation service. An apparatus for providing POI information to a navigation system includes a GPS(Global Positioning System) receiver(10), a memory(30), a display(50), and an information providing unit. The GPS receiver receives coordinate data from a GPS satellite. The memory stores a map database. The display displays a map corresponding to the coordinate data. The information providing unit provides the map screen including guidance information from the current position to a destination based on the map database and the coordinate data according to a user request. The information providing unit provides a detailed map screen of a peripheral region of the path, when requested by the user. |
