PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a torque actuator which can effectively convert the linear motion of a piston into the rotational motion with a simple constitution. SOLUTION: The torque actuator comprises a shaft 1, a cylindrical piston 2 externally fitted in the shaft 1, a casing 3 externally fitted in the piston 2, a fixing means 4 to fix one of either the shaft 1 or the casing 3 not rotatably, pressure chambers 5A and 5B formed by the shaft 1, the end surface of the piston 2, and the casing 3, a working fluid feeding means to feed the working fluid into the pressure chambers 5A and 5B, and move the piston 2 axially, a slide mechanism 6 to guide the piston 2 axially and movably with respect to the shaft 1 as well as not rotatably around the shaft, and a ball screw mechanism 8 to rotate the other of either the shaft 1 or the casing 3 as the piston 2 is moved axially by feeding the working fluid into the pressure chambers 5A and 5B by the working fluid feeding means.
