PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide powder which can gradually release an antibacterial component, has high water resistance and heat resistance, and can be used for drugs, quasi-drugs, cosmetics or the like, and which is capable of imparting antibacterial properties to a material or a molding by being blended with the material such as rubber or synthetic resin to be molded or being applied to the surface of the molding. SOLUTION: The antibacterial agent is formed from antibacterial layered silicate containing magadiite or kenyaite, into which a quaternary ammonium ion or a tertiary amine ion having antibacterial properties is introduced by ion exchange. The ion-exchanged magadiite or kenyaite has a nearly spherical particulate shape wherein scale-like crystals are densely aggregated. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
