VISCOUS COUPLING

A viscous coupling in which a differential motion can be limited when a relative rotation occurs and, as required, the limitation of the differential motion can be canceled. The viscous coupling (1) includes an outer housing (2) and an inner housing (3). A housing (12) for interlocking is provided between the outer and inner housings to form a working chamber (18). Inner plates (11) and outer plates (17) are alternately disposed. A clutch disk (25) is connected to the housing (12) for interlocking, and the engagement teeth (28) of the clutch disk (25) can be engaged with the engagement teeth (30) of a wall part (29) by the action of an electromagnet (31). When the action of the electromagnet (31) is released, the engagement is released by the actions of pressure angles formed in the engagement teeth (28) of the clutch disk (25) and the engagement teeth (30) of the wall part (29) in the disengaging direction and an elastic member (36).
