PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact observation device equipped with a display function and capable of displaying a two-dimensional image and a three-dimensional image by simple constitution and easy processing. SOLUTION: The observation device is equipped with a pair of eyepieces and a pair of objectives, and allows an observer to observe the intermediate image of an object formed by the objective through the eyepiece. The observation device is equipped with: one display part provided on an optical path branched from an optical path linking the eyepiece and the objective and displaying the two-dimensional image and the three-dimensional image; a pair of member parts for a three-dimensional image provided so as to get in/out of a first optical path linking the eyepiece and the display part or a second optical path linking the objective and the display part; a switching part for switching whether the two-dimensional image is displayed on the display part or whether the three-dimensional image is displayed thereon; and a control part for making the member for the three-dimensional image retreat from the first or the second optical path when the two-dimensional image is displayed on the display part by the switching part, and inserting the member for the three-dimensional image in the first or the second optical path when the three-dimensional image is displayed on the display part by the switching part.
