The invention concerns a method for calculating the useful torque imparted by a cyclist to a bicycle, by detecting the angular acceleration of the chainset (2) and searching for local minima to determine the resultant of external efforts in combination with the transmission gear ratio, the computation of which is performed using data from the magnetic sensor (4). The invention concerns an adequate method for measuring the movement of the chainset (2) by a self-adapting detector (3) operating directly on the teeth of a chainset, insensitive to ambient light, and delivering with precision and the bandwidth required the information to an onboard central processing unit (1) for computation, the graphic display, the audio signalling, the recording and the digital reproduction of the acceleration, the useful torque, the instantaneous, average, maximum power, the energy consumed in three categories of biochemical resources during the course. The invention also concerns an integral standalone device using said methods allowing a cyclist to maximize his performance and avoid harmful muscular overstrains. Other devices may be used for detecting the movement of the chainset or computing the gear ratio. |
