PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machine tool which can accurately carry out a machining operation with small consumption of energy at a high speed. SOLUTION: The machine tool has at least one of movable main spindle units (12, 32) for machining a workpiece, movable tables (16, 36, 56) for mounting the workpiece, movable saddles (18, 38) for supporting the tables (16, 36, 56), and a movable column (34) for mounting the main spindle unit (32), as movable portions, wherein the movable portions are made of lightweight material such as light alloy and synthetic resin.
