The method involves rotatably supporting a shut-off flap (1) in a shut-off support (2) at a shaft (3). The shut-off flap is loaded at a side with pulsating compressed air for a predetermined testing period. The pulsating compressed air is discharged over fast shift valves (4a, 4b), and a shut-off valve is tested for damages after the expiration of the time period. The pulsating compressed air with 1.2 to 2.5 bar positive pressure and a frequency from 0.5 to 10 cycles per second is applied on a side of the shut-off valve.
