PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle speed controller for performing automatic transition control without making a driver feel uncomfortable even when the travel speed of his/her own vehicle is low when no preceding vehicle is detected. SOLUTION: The vehicle travel controller 1 performs follow-up travel when a preceding vehicle exists and performs constant speed travel at a set vehicle speed when no preceding vehicle exists. The vehicle travel controller 1 has a control means for controlling, when the deviation between the travel speed of the one's own vehicle having lost the preceding vehicle and the set vehicle speed is more than a predetermined value, the acceleration shifting to the set vehicle speed so that the deviation is smaller than that of the predetermined value or more.
