PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of forming a high-definition image with high durability by suppressing rise of residual potential in repetitive use of a photoreceptor is prevented, and an image forming method thereof. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes at least: an electrostatic latent image carrier; an electrostatic latent image forming means; a developing means; a transfer means; and a charge removing means. The electrostatic latent image carrier has: a support; and a photosensitive layer composed of at least an intermediate layer, a charge-generating layer, and a charge transport layer on the support. The intermediate layer contains at least a metal oxide material, and the charge-generating layer contains an organic charge generating material. The charge removing means radiates light which has a wavelength shorter than 500 nm and which can be absorbed by the metal oxide material that is contained in the intermediate layer.
