PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substrate for a display element which is least affected by external light, has an excellent display quality such as high contrast and high luminance, and can control the scattering intensity of light of three primary colors. SOLUTION: The substrate has a transparent substrate, and a light scattering layer which is formed on the transparent substrate and in which microparticles are dispersed in a transparent resin. The light scattering layer contains at least microparticles in the range of the average particle size of≥1.0μm and≤1.6μm, microparticles in the range of the average particle size of≥0.8μm and <1.0μm, and microparticles in the range of the average particle size of >1.6μm and≤2.8μm.
