PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal clamp device capable of allowing a worker or the like to freely move in a pipe while the internal clamp device being inserted in and set to a pipe to be connected, and enhancing the workability when setting grooves of pipes to be joined with each other and installing and welding a backing of a groove. SOLUTION: When a pipe 2a and a pipe 2b are welded to each other by using an internal clamp device 1, the internal clamp device 1 is inserted in one pipe 2a to be joined, and the position of the internal clamp device 1 is adjusted so that the center of a backing copper plate 11 fitted to a head 6 is agreed with a groove line of the pipe 2a. When the internal clamp device 1 is inserted in the pipe 2a for position adjustment, and if the diameter of the pipe 2a is large, a worker can move into the pipe 2a through a through hole 7 formed in a cylinder holding part 5 of the internal clamp device 1, and the positioning work or the like of the internal clamp device 1 can be easily performed.
