PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyamide short fiber suitable for a non-woven fabric for a cell separator excellent in liquid absorptivity of alkaline electrolyte solution, electric insulation and gas permeability. SOLUTION: This polyamide short fiber is composed of a polyamide resin, having 0.3-2.2 dtex single yarn fineness and 1-15 mm fiber length, without being imparted with a crimp substantially and the single yarn perpendicularly relative to the longitudinal direction of the fiber has a multilobal cross section cut having 3 to 20 projecting parts. The cross-sectional shape of the single fiber satisfies the following formula: D1<D2COS (θ/2) [wherein, D1 is the diameter of inscribed circle (μm), D2 is the diameter of circumscribed circle (μm), andθis the minimum angle of the angles between adjacent projecting parts].
