PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding door sudden closure preventing device constituted to apply braking force when a sliding door rapidly closes and not to apply braking force when the sliding door silently closes. SOLUTION: The sliding door sudden closure preventing device has a fixed braking member 58 mounted to a horizontal frame part 16, and a movable braking member 48 moved into a braking position to be engaged with the fixed braking member 58 to brake the sliding door 12 if the speed of the sliding door is a predetermined value or higher when the sliding door approaches the closed position as shown in Fig.2, and into a non-braking position to perform no braking operation without being engaged with the fixed braking member 58 if the speed of the sliding door is the predetermined value or lower.
