PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording device capable of recording good images on the rear end area of a recording medium, and a recording method. SOLUTION: The recording device transfers a sheet material by using a transfer roller and a pinch roller located on the upstream side of a subsidiary scanning direction, and a paper ejection roller and a spur located on the downstream side of the subsidiary direction. After the sheet material gets out from the transfer roller and the pinch roller, the sheet material is transferred by using the paper ejection roller and the spur. The recording device records a test pattern to detect a difference in the transfer amount of the sheet material between the amount before the sheet material gets out from the transfer roller and the pinch roller and the amount at the time when it gets out. The recording device corrects the transfer amount at the time when the sheet material gets out from the transfer roller and the pinch roller on the basis of the correction amount set in accordance with the result of recording of the test pattern. The recording device records a test pattern to detect a difference in the transfer amount of the sheet material before it gets out from the transfer roller and the pinch roller and after it gets out, and corrects the transfer amount after the sheet material gets out from the transfer roller and the pinch roller on the basis of the result of recording.
