IMAGE OUTPUT APPARATUS, IMAGE OUTPUT METHOD, AND COMPUTER PROGRAM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image output apparatus and an image output method capable of displaying a display image easily viewed by a viewer by preventing deterioration in the visibility of the display image caused by external light.

SOLUTION: A luminance distribution detection circuit 301 in a luminance correction section 103 of a projector discriminates to which consecutive small intervals with the same widths a luminance value of each of pixels by one image is included within a maximum interval and a minimum interval which the luminance value can take and counts the number of pixels whose luminance values are included in each small interval, a coefficient calculation circuit 302 calculates a conversion coefficient proportional to the number of the pixels included in each small interval, and a luminance level adjustment circuit 303 uses the conversion coefficient and an offset generated by a correction value determining circuit 305 in response to the illuminance of the external light to correct the luminance value of each pixel.
