PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paste in which joining performance of an electrolyte membrane with an electrode base material, especially the joining performance with the hydrocarbon based electrolyte membrane in which methanol permeability is made smaller than that of perfluorosulfonic acid based membrane such as Nafion, can be improved. SOLUTION: This is the catalyst paste for the solid polymer fuel cell which contains (1) catalyst particles, (2) alkoxy silane having ion conductive group or its hydrolysate, and (3) polyether in which alkoxy silyl groups are bonded to both ends of molecular chain via a bond selected from amide bond, urethane bond, and urea bond.
