A lighting device is provided with a light source (1), a first integrator (11) wherein light from the light source (1) enters, and a second integrator (33) wherein light outputted from the first integrator (11) enters. Thus, an opening shape of the first integrator (11) can be optimally designed and light use efficiency can be improved. Furthermore, even when the length of the first integrator (11) is shortened, insufficient nonuniformity of light due to the first integrator (11) is supplemented by the second integrator (33), and high uniformity is ensured on a plane to be illuminated.
