<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a combustion device carrying out safe combustion by detecting an ignition failure and a misfire even when burning fuel which hardly generates ions during combustion. <P>SOLUTION: The combustion device 10 comprises: a hydrogen-containing gas supply pipe 11 formed with a hydrogen-containing gas supply port 11h for leading out hydrogen-containing gas Gh; a fuel supply pipe 12 formed with a fuel supply port 12h for supplying hydrocarbon fuel Gc to the outer peripheral part of the hydrogen-containing gas supply pipe 11; and a temperature detecting means 18 detecting the temperature of flames formed when the hydrogen-containing gas Gh is burnt and when the hydrocarbon fuel Gc is burnt. The presence of flames formed in the combustion of the hydrogen-containing gas Gh hardly generating ions, is thereby detected by the temperature detecting means.
