PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a paperboard by which scale trouble and pitch trouble can be avoided in a papermaking system and to provide the paperboard having excellent sizing performances and paper strength. SOLUTION: The method for producing the paperboard comprises using a pulp slurry having (1) pH6.5-8.5, (2) 50-400 ppm alkalinity and (3) 50-250 mS/m electroconductivity, adding (4) an internal sizing agent to the pulp slurry and carrying out the papermaking. When the method for producing the paperboard is used, a paper strengthening agent is preferably added. Acrylamide polymers and/or starches are more preferably added as the paper strengthening agent.
