PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for forming an excellent joint part through two processes when members having different thickness are butted against each other and joined by friction stir welding. SOLUTION: A first member 10 having a thickness T<SB>1</SB>and a second member 20 whose thickness T<SB>2</SB>is smaller than T<SB>1</SB>are laid on a table 40 and an abutting part 30 with a step is formed by them. In a first process, friction stir welding is performed on the part with the step using a cylindrical tool 100 and an alternative projecting part 150 is formed. In a second process, friction stir welding is performed on the alternative projecting part 150 by a friction-stir-welding tool 200. In this way, an excellent joint part 250 is obtained.
