PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic control device for an automatic transmission capable of preventing deterioration of response on increase of hydraulic pressure while reducing an overshoot and an undershoot. SOLUTION: A switching mechanism 44a is disposed for adjusting a level of buffering action of a damper 43a, the level of buffering action is increased when hydraulic oil flows in the direction from a pressure regulating valve 31a toward a solenoid valve 30a, and the level of the buffering action is lowered when the hydraulic oil flows in the direction from the solenoid valve 30a toward the pressure regulating valve 31a, thus the deterioration of response on increase of hydraulic pressure is prevented while reducing an overshoot and an undershoot.
