Curing agents for epoxy resins consist of a mixt. of (I) a Lewis acid, and (II) one or more phosphorus cpds. of formula (IIa) or (IIb) R and R' = C1-10 alkyl, aryl, cycloalkyl, alkaryl, aralkyl, alkoxyalkyl, alkoxyaryl, hydroxyalkyl, hydroxyaryl, or alkenyl, which are opt. substd. by halogen. - Use of the mixt. of (I) and (II) enables complete curing of the epoxy resin to be obtained without the use of external heat. The cured resins have improved resistance to alkali, self-extinguisher properties, and excellent adhesion to most materials, e.g. steel, Al, carbon, ceramics, and plastics.
