A system and a method for encoding/decoding data in a band unit are provided to improve a printing speed by allowing a printer driver not to compress the data in a band if all data included in one band of an inputted document is white data. The printer driver(100) forms and provides a package, which includes information indicating that the band is a white band, to an image forming device(110) if all data included in one band of the inputted document is the white data. The image forming device generates the white band if the information indicating the white band is included in the package. The printer driver includes a rendering unit(120) generating bitmap data, a white band detector(125) detecting whether the generated bitmap data comprises the white data, an encoder(130), and a packager(140) forming the package including at least one of the white band information or the encoded information. The encoder generates the white band if the bitmap data comprises the white data, and generates the encoded data by encoding the bitmap data if not.
