1,038,852. Fuel cells. AMERICAN CYANAMID CO. Dec. 16, 1964 [Jan. 30, 1964], No. 51258/64. Heading H1B. An electrode for a free electrolyte fuel cell comprises a hydrophobic porous substrate of P.T.F.E. or of polytrifluoroethylene and moulded thereon a catalyst (1-98%) and a water-repellent binder (1-40%). A conductive filler may be added to the composition, preferably graphite or carbon black. P.T.F.E. is the preferred binder. Two such electrodes with the catalytic surface facing inward in contact with the electrolyte and the gas or fuel supplied to the other surface, form a cell. |
