A method for compensating for the temperature of a plasma display panel using discharge history and a plasma display device are provided to extend the lifespan of the PDP by accurately monitoring overall or local heating of the PDP(Plasma Display Panel). A plasma display device includes a PDP(10), driving circuits(20,30,40), a history extracting unit(60), and a controller(50). Plural discharge cells are formed on the PDP. The driving circuits drive the discharge cells on the PDP according to a predetermined driving voltage and display an image. The history extracting unit extracts discharge history of at least a portion of the discharge cells, according to the image data which is displayed during a predetermined time period. The controller controls the driving circuits according to the discharge histories and regulates the driving voltage.
