The method involves inserting a mandrel (22) into a center hole (18) of a rotatably driven hollow drill (12) from a free side of the hollow drill. The mandrel is moved back and forth for cleaning the center hole by a pressure cylinder, where the center hole is cleaned before the execution of a new drill. A counter bearing (20) is provided for a pleated hanging material, which is to be drilled, with a grommet (24) for the mandrel. An independent claim is also included for a drilling device for executing a method of drilling a pleated hanging material.
