A discharge display device is provided to reduce power consumption by increasing the distance between sustain electrode lines and scan electrode lines in the display device. A discharge display device includes a discharge display panel and a driver for the display panel. The display panel includes front and rear substrates(111,121). Sustain electrode lines(131) and scan electrode lines(132) are arranged between the front and rear substrates. Address electrode lines are arranged to cross the scan and sustain electrode lines. The distance between the scan and sustain electrode lines is greater than a predetermined value. The potential of the sustain pulse, which is alternately applied to the scan and sustain electrode lines, is higher than a corresponding reference potential. The ratio of the distance increase between the electrode lines to the potential increase of the sustain pulses lies between 0.2 and 0.5.
