<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pivotally supporting structure of the output shaft of an electric power steering device which does not limit the arrangement of an electric power steering device and the part arrangement on the vehicle side. SOLUTION: This device is structured so that the output of a motor is transmitted to a steering mechanism through a worm gear speed reduction mechanism for assisting steering. Also a pinion 12 which constitutes the input shaft of the steering mechanism to which the speed reduction mechanism is connected is pivotally supported by a ball bearing 18 which is the primary bearing arranged on the speed reduction mechanism side and a needle bearing 20 which is the secondary bearing arranged on the pinion top end part. In addition, the primary bearing is fixed to a housing 14 by a retaining ring 19 which is a fixing means to control the axial direction so that it pivotally supports a load acting radially on a pinion as well as a load acting axially. Then, to fix the retaining ring 19 to the housing 14, an opening part for working 16a is provided in the worm wheel 16, and a tool is inserted through the opening part to fix the retaining ring to the housing.</p> |
