PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber fusion splicing machine capable of aligning optical fibers with each other with the fibers clamped and smoothly opening/closing a windshield cover. SOLUTION: The optical fiber fusion splicing machine is equipped with a windshield cover that covers the butting part of optical fibers to be butt-connected so that the cover is freely opened or closed and a clamp arm 24 that rotates linked with the opening/closing operation of the windshield cover, that has a rotary shaft different from that of the windshield cover and that presses each optical fiber to a V groove 21c. The machine is also equipped with a holding member 22 that fusion-splices the optical fibers at the butting part and that holds the clamp arm 24 and a moving stage 21 together with the optical fibers freely movably at least in the axial direction of the optical fibers.
