A flat panel fluorescent lamp of a barrier rib passage discharge type is provided to realize plasma uniformity and low-voltage driving by inducing discharge to a lateral direction of a barrier rib. An upper plate glass(11) is disposed at a position facing a lower plate glass(10). A discharge space is formed between the upper plate glass and the lower plate glass. A barrier rib(20) including a protrusion(21) and a discharge passage(22) is positioned on the lower plate glass. A plurality of multi-electrodes are installed between the barrier rib and the barrier rib of the lower plate glass in order to generate plasma in the discharge passage across the barrier ribs by applying AC voltages having different kinds of polarity to the adjacent multi-electrodes.
