The proposed distance meter contains an optical system, an optical pulse transmitter, a photodetector, an amplifier, a reference signal former, an ANDlogic element, a measuring pulse generator, a measuring pulse time gate, a measuring pulse counter, a decoder, a digital indicator, a measured signal former, and additionally, for the purpose to increase the measurement accuracy, an adder, a vernier pulse generator, a vernier pulse time gate, a vernier pulse counter, and the second AND logic element. The input of the measured signal former is connected to the output of the amplifier, and the output is connected to the second input of the first AND logic element. The output of the first AND logic element is connected to the second input of the measuring pulse time gate. The output of the vernier pulse counter is connected to the second input of the adder. The first input of the second AND logic element is connected to the output of the measured signal former, the second input is connected to the output of the measuring pulse generator, and the output is connected to the second input of the vernier pulse time gate.
