METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR INCREASING THE FB DATA WINDOWS FOR THE NEIGHBOR CELL FB SEARCHING IN THE GPRS PACKET TRANSFER MODE

A method and an apparatus for extending FB(Frequency Burst) data Windows in FB searching for a neighbor cell in the packet transfer mode of a GSM(Global System for Mobile communication) system are provided to succeed in acquiring synchronization with an NCell(Neighbor Cell) in packet transfer mode, regardless of multislot classes, by using buffers in order to prevent the retransmission of Tx data or a failure in FB searching. A control part sets an initial value "N" to "0" and starts the first FB searching(905). At the first FB searching, the control part counts "1"(910). As N is smaller than "2"(915), the control part executes FB searching for the Rx data of 8 time slots(945). In case an FB has not been found at the first FB searching(950), the control part confirms whether N is "12"(955). If not, the control part stores the data of the last 1.5 time slots or result values, calculated at the last 1.5 time slots, in the first buffer(960,965). Then the control part executes the second FB searching.
