A liquid crystal aligning layer and a method for surface treatment of the liquid crystal aligning layer are provided to prevent the liquid crystal aligning layer from being easily deformed, by applying plasma beam to the aligning layer so as to perform a non-contact type liquid crystal aligning work. A plasma beam source is used for surface treatment of an alignment layer. The plasma beam source includes a base(101), an anode(103) disposed above the base, at least magnetic device(104) disposed above the anode and functioning as a cathode, and a discharge groove(115) disposed between the anode and the magnetic device. The magnetic device is composed of a conductive magnet. A plasma beam is applied to a surface of the alignment layer so that the alignment layer has a specific directivity. Each of liquid crystal molecules, which is contacted with the alignment layer, has a predetermined alignment angle by the directivity of the alignment layer. The alignment layer contains a fluorine material. The fluorine material is one of F-polyimide including fluorine, F-PVCN(polyvinylcinnamate) including fluorine, F-PMMA(polymethylmethacrylate) including fluorine, F-DLC(diamond-like carbon) including fluorine, and a mixture thereof. |
