An adapter plate 6 for connection to a Rudge Whitworth centre lock motor vehicle hub has teeth 7 which engage teeth 5 cut in the wheel locating flange 2 of the hub, the plate being shaped to receive a disc wheel 8 that can be secured on the hub by a nut screwed on to the threaded free end of the shaft sleeve 1 of the hub with holes 10 in the disc of the wheel being engaged by drive pegs 9 in the plate 6. Splines (3) originally on the sleeve are removed and the adapter plate sliding fits on the sleeve where it is held rotationally fast by the engaging teeth. The nut acts on the wheel through a clamping ring 11 with the pegs 9 and holes 10 co-operating to rotatingly lock the wheel to the disc and transmit drive from the hub to the wheel. The plate configuration may be chosen for the vehicle to retain is original track or have a changed track. An alternative adapter plate (6A, Fig. 5, not shown) has splines (12) which interferingly fit the splines (3) on the original hub; there being no teeth formed on the plate (6A) or the flange.
