In a ball bearing both the outer and inner races are provided with a raceway having two ,surfaces, each of which is generated by a straight line or by a curved line, and each ball engages each raceway at two spaced-apart points of contact. Tangents passing through the points of contact make an angle with each other which is less than 180 degrees and the angle between each tangent and the axis of rotation of the bearing is less than 15 degrees. In an embodiment an outer race 4, Fig. 3, comprises rings 3 and 5 having conical raceways 2<SP>1</SP> and an inner race 6 comprises rings 7 and 9 having conical raceways 2<SP>1</SP>. The rings are held together by means of an external ring 8 and an internal ring 10. In another embodiment raceways 2<SP>11</SP>, Fig. 4, are curved. The rings 3, 5 and 7, 9 may be replaced by a one-piece outer ring and a one-piece inner ring respectively. |
