摘要 <p>A method and an apparatus for decoding a control channel in a wireless communication system are provided to minimize the power consumption of a mobile terminal in idle state, especially in a sleep state, by executing decoding in units of a sub burst. In case a mobile terminal wakes up from a sleep state(311), the mobile terminal receives the first burst and the second burst from a demodulator in order to obtain a paging message, decodes the received bursts, and restores the paging message(313). If decoding is successful, the mobile terminal receives the third and fourth bursts and enters into the sleep state, without decoding(315-319). In case decoding is not successful, however, the controller of the mobile terminal calculates the number and location of sub bursts to be used for the next decoding, based on the SNR(Signal-to-Noise Ratio) of either of the received bursts and one among doppler frequencies(321). The controller compares the calculated number with a reference value(323). If the calculated number is larger than the reference value, the controller outputs a control signal(DCS) to the demodulator in order to disable the operation of the demodulator(317). Also the controller outputs a decoding control signal(CSD) to each decoder in order to disable the operation of each decoder. Then the mobile terminal enters into the sleep state(319).</p>
