A volume control method by a sensor in a communication terminal is provided to allow the sensor installed in a receiving part to control the volume to be contacted with a user's ear to turn up or down the volume, thereby increasing concentration on reception itself during a call. A sensor for sensing contact is installed in the vicinity of a receiving part of a communication terminal, and a mode for controlling the volume is set(401,403). If volume control is necessary in the set mode, it is confirmed whether the terminal is in busy state or another sound is outputted(407). If the volume is to be controlled, the sensor senses to control the volume through various actions while the sensor of the receiving part is contacted with a user's body(408-413,408-419).
