A device and a method for authenticating a system are provided to authenticate security data in a mobile terminal with a security authentication data request signal and perform authentication by transceiving the authentication data between the mobile terminal and a remote portable authentication device. The mobile terminal(114) requests the security authentication data by a system operation signal. The portable authentication device(116) transceives the authentication data by a security authentication request signal. The mobile terminal includes a security authentication storing part(104), the first communicator(102) transmitting the request signal and receiving the authentication data, and a security authentication controller(100) performing the authentication by comparing the authentication data received through the first communicator with the security authentication data stored in the database. The portable authentication device includes an authentication storing part(112), the second communicator(108) receiving the request signal and transmitting the authentication data, and an authentication controller(110).
