The present invention is a method and apparatus (120) for mixing viscous fluids. The mixing apparatus comprises a cage located at the end of a shaft (122). The cage comprises a support, such as central circular disc (124) wit h an outer edge and top and bottom sides. A number of vanes (126) are mounted for rotation with the support. In one arrangement, the vanes (126) extend fr om one or both sides of the disc (124), the vanes (126) spacedly located near t he outer edge of the plate. The method comprises rotating the mixing apparatus in a container of fluid.
