A method for restricting the reproduction of an optical disc is provided to apply a reproduction restricting function to all types of optical discs by generating and storing information on a reproduction restricting section in a metadata type so that the information is recognizable by all types of optical discs. An optical disc is inserted into an optical disc reproducing apparatus. A reproduction restricting section is selected from an image stored on the optical disc(S220). Information on the selected section is stored in the optical disc or a memory of the optical disc reproducing apparatus. Metadata of a predetermined format are generated through the information on the selected section(S220). The metadata are stored in the optical disc or the memory of the optical disc reproducing apparatus(S230).
