Over stroke prevention structure for a linear compressor is provided to rapidly allow normal operation during over stroke generation by balancing internal pressure of compression space and discharge space, and to prevent damage of components by preventing collision between the components. Over stroke prevention structure for a linear compressor comprises a cylinder(52), a piston(54), at least one suction hole or more, a suction valve(56), a discharge valve assembly(58) and a bypass part(70). The cylinder forms compression space in the inside. The piston has one end inserted into the inside of the cylinder, linearly reciprocating from an upper dead center to a bottom dead center, and compresses refrigerant inside the compression space. The at least one suction hole or more is formed on one end of the piston to be communicated with the compression space. The suction valve is installed in the suction hole, opened/closed by pressure of the inside of the compression space, and controls suctioning of the refrigerant into the compression space. The discharge valve assembly is installed on one end of the cylinder so as to be communicated with the compression space, opened/closed by pressure of the inside of the compression space, and controls discharge of the refrigerant from the compression space to discharge space. The bypass unit is formed between the cylinder and the piston, and flows the refrigerant from the discharge space to the compression space.
