METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR SENSING AND CONTROLLING THE FLYING HEIGHT OF A READ-WRITE HEAD IN HARD DISK DRIVE

An apparatus and a method for sensing and controlling a flying height of a read-write head in a hard disc drive are provided to improve the accuracy in control of the flying height of the read-write head. A slider(90) comprises a terminal for measuring leakage current to be used to estimate a flying height of a read-write head(94) in the slider(90) which is positioned adjacently to a rotating disc surface(120-1) included in a hard disc drive(10). The leakage current is generated between a spindle motor(270) electrically connected to the rotating disc surface(120-1) through a spindle(40) and the slider(90). The terminal is electrically connected to a metal layer.
