A display apparatus and a method for controlling the same are provided to control operation of the display device by using a keyboard when a remote control is not available, thereby increasing the user convenience. A display device(100) includes an input unit receiving a keyboard signal reception command, an interface unit transmitting the keyboard signal reception command to a PC(200), and a control unit receiving a predetermined keyboard signal from the PC through the interface unit and performing control operation corresponding to the received keyboard signal. The PC includes an interface unit connected with a predetermined display device for relaying communication with the display device, a keyboard signal receiving unit receiving a keyboard signal inputted through a keyboard(300), a converting unit converting the received keyboard signal into a control signal recognizable in the display device, and a control unit transmitting the converted control signal to the display device through the interface unit so that the display device performs operation corresponding to the keyboard signal.
