An ink jet printer with a cartridge for ink pellets, capable of efficiently and reliably using the cartridge by providing a separating and releasing member to a printer or the cartridge. An ink jet printer with a cartridge for ink pellets includes a cartridge(11), a separating and releasing member, and a supply member. The cartridge stores ink pellets. The separating and releasing member simultaneously separates and releases a single ink pellet. The supply member supplies the ink pellets to an ink supply unit of a printer head. The cartridge includes at least outlet port for releasing the ink pellets. The separating and releasing member includes a shaft and a tangent line moving limit member(13). The shaft includes a spiral member formed around the shaft. The tangent line moving limit member extends in a parallel direction of the shaft. The tangent line moving limit member is engaged with the spiral member and moves the ink pellets to a first moving direction.
