A semiconductor memory device and a method for operating the same are provided to perform more efficient reset of a data transfer line for transmitting read and write data. A semiconductor memory device comprises a data transfer line. A read data signal transfer part receives a first data signal corresponding to a read command through the data transfer line, and outputs the first data signal. A reset control part resets the data transfer line in response to a reset signal. A write data signal transfer part(300B) receives a second data signal corresponding to a write command and then outputs the second data signal to the data transfer line, and performs a reset operation of the data transfer line in response to the reset signal.
