High-pressure gas injector for internal combustion engine has gas jet activator operated during second half of compression cycle

The gas injector for an internal combustion engine cylinder with inlet and exhaust ducts, a piston (3) and a channel (4) through the cylinder head (1) connected to a gas source, has a gas (e.g. air) jet (9) activated during the second half of the engine's compression cycle before the fuel is injected. When the gas jet is released the pressure of the gas in the source is greater that the pressure in the combustion chamber. The axis of the gas jet channel is directed towards the combustion chamber and inclined at 90 degrees or less to the piston's axis of symmetry.
