FIELD: engine engineering. ^ SUBSTANCE: piston engine comprises at least one piston set in the cylinder and provided with at lest one piston ring mounted in the groove. The bottom side of the ring bears on the bottom side of the groove. The area of the contact surface on the bottom side of the piston ring that is in a contact with the bottom side of the groove is smaller than the area of the overlapping radially bounded by the inner edge of the piston ring and outer edge of the groove. The bottom side of the piston ring is provided with hollows that bound its active contact surface. The cross-pieces are interposed between the hollows.
