The control method for IC engines (10) with an exhaust system (14) fitted with a particle filter (16), from which particles are removed in a regeneration process, comprises comparing the load on the engine and its rpm with threshold values and cutting off the fuel supply if these exceed the thresholds. The threshold values are set according to regeneration signals from the particle filter. An independent claim is included for apparatus for carrying out the method.
