The method involves implementing the signal processing with an input signal (X) and an inverted input signal. An output signal (Y2.1.1) of a non-inverted input signal is compared with an output signal (Y2.1.2) of the inverted input signal in order to determine whether the output signal (Y2.1.2) corresponds to an inversion of the output signal (Y2.1.1). A malfunction of a signal processing unit (1) is identified with the occurrence of an error due to the non-correspondence of the output signal (Y2.1.2) of the inverted input signal to the inversion of the output signal (Y2.1.1). An independent claim is also included for a signal processing unit for implementing a method for functional inspection of a signal processing unit.
